Individuals who may have been exposed are advised to monitor themselves, and if symptoms of measles develop – to stay home and call Health Link Alberta at 1-866-408-5465 before visiting a health care facility or provider.

Symptoms of measles include a fever of 38.3 degrees Celsius or higher, with a cough, runny nose, and/or red eyes, and a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after the fever starts, starting behind the ears, spreading to the face and then to the body.

Earlier this week, AHS declared a measles outbreak in the Edmonton, Central and Calgary Zones.

The case announced Friday brings the provincial total number of cases to 23.
