Weeks after the provincial election, the members of Alberta’s legislative assembly were sworn in.

The day of ceremonies started with all 52 New Democrat MLAs being sworn-in starting at 10 a.m., the Official Opposition, made up of 21 Wildrose MLAs were sworn-in starting at 1 p.m., followed by the eight PC MLAs at 2:30 p.m.

Later on Monday afternoon, single person caucus members were sworn-in: Liberal Leader David Swann at 3:30 p.m., Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark at 4 p.m., and independent MLA Deborah Drever at 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, there will be a mock session held in preparation for the upcoming session – that is set to start June 11, with a Speech from the Throne set for June 15.

It’s expected an interim budget will be passed to keep the province running while the governing NDP prepare a full budget, expected to be released in the fall.
