No longer will Albertans receive the lowest general minimum wage in Canada thanks to a 25 cent increase to take effect September 1. The current wage of $9.95 is presently the lowest in Canada by 5 cents. 

The liquor server minimum wage will also see an increase, rising from $9.05 to $9.20 per hour. The $1 per hour difference between the two wages is to acknowledge that liquor servers typically earn tips.  

Roughly 25,700 people in Alberta earn minimum wage which works out to 1.5 per cent of employees in Alberta.
