The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a man was shot by RCMP on Christmas Day.

Officials said police responded to the Vegreville TD Bank around 9:05 a.m. December 25 for a possible robbery at an ATM.

According to authorities, RCMP officers were confronted by a man on the scene and “due to situation factors” a single fire was shot.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and remains in stable condition.

ASIRT has taken over the investigation and said they recovered a replica firearm at the scene.

They also said that the initial complaint of a robbery at the bank was false.

The false complaint is under investigation by RCMP
