His time as leader of the New Democrats may have ended in October, but Brian Mason does not appear to be finished with provincial politics, and he’s planning on running in the next provincial election.

The Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood MLA said he ‘hated to be the bearer of bad news for Premier Jim Prentice’ in a press conference Tuesday morning, with NDP Leader Rachel Notley, but he would run again.

Back in April, 2014, Mason announced he would step down as leader of the NDP in October – after 10 years at the party’s helm.

At the party convention in October, Edmonton-Strathcona MLA Notley was chosen with 70 percent of the vote, beating out fellow candidates David Eggen and Rod Loyola.

An election has not been called.
