An investigation is underway into a string of sexual assaults that allegedly took place in Edmonton nearly 40 years ago.

Officials said the investigation centres on a non-military male youth who reportedly sexually assaulted a child he was babysitting between 1978 and 1980.

“Basically, we’re just trying to get the word out and have anyone with information to get in touch as part of the investigation,” Captain Pam Harris with the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service. “We do take all allegations of sexual assault seriously and conduct those investigations in a comprehensive manner to determine the facts and analyze the evidence and, if warranted, lay appropriate charges.”

It’s alleged the assaults took place in a housing unit at what was once called RCAF Station Namao.

Investigators said the youth and the victim are not related.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
