Police are investigating the death of popular UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo after he was struck by a vehicle at a parking lot on Whyte Avenue early Sunday.

Jimmo, 34, is believed to have been showing his American girlfriend around his adopted hometown when he got into an argument with men in another truck. As he was walking back to his own vehicle from the pickup truck, he was hit, a witness said.

“As we were approaching, we heard there was some sort of commotion going on,” the woman said. “We heard a loud smack, like a bang, and then tires screeching, a girl screaming, and then a guy came flying like a bat out of hell.”

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Late Monday, police sent out an image of the suspect vehicle and driver, and the description of the fleeing truck – an older model dark extended cab pickup.

Jimmo was born in Saint John, N.B., and first appeared in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's UFC 149, in Calgary, in July of 2012. He went 19-5 in his mixed-martial arts career and lost his final bout in May, 2015.
