Officials with the provincial government issued a fire weather advisory for Albertans living in northern and central Alberta Thursday.

The province said hot and dry weather conditions, and forecast wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres per hour are expected to increase the fire hazard risk to extreme levels for Thursday and Friday.

As a result, the province issued an advisory, and asked Albertans to take extra precautions.

On Thursday, officials said 116 wildfires are burning in Alberta, 46 of those are considered out of control.

As crews battle those fires, officials are working to prevent more fires from starting – as conditions will be perfect for fires to spread quickly.

Due to the advisory, all burning permits within the central and northern parts of the Forest Protection Area have been cancelled, and no new permits will be issued.

To report a wildfire, call 310-FIRE.
