A day after a young woman woman died – Homicide investigators have charged a man in connection to her death.

The news came hours after police officially ruled the death of 25-year-old Alexandra Noble was a homicide.

Now, Trevor Toews, 27, is facing a charge of second degree murder.

The charge stems from an incident that started just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, when a man arrived at the West Division station, and directed officers to an apartment located on 153 Street and 101 Avenue.

“A 27-year-old man came to West Division to report an incident that happened at an apartment complex in the west end,” Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Lisa Sobchyshyn said.

Neighbours told CTV News the man who went to the police station Wednesday evening was Noble’s common-law husband, and he had the couple’s two-year-old son with him.

On arrival, Noble was found unresponsive.

Police and paramedics started CPR, and were able to revive her before she was taken to hospital – where she died.

“They were able to get her into an ambulance and transported to hospital, but within an hour of her time at the hospital, she passed away,” Sobchyshyn said.

An autopsy was conducted Thursday morning, and her death was found to have been caused by asphyxia due to strangulation.

At the time, a 27-year-old man was in custody in relation to the death, and Alexandra Noble’s young son is in the care of family.

Toews’ first court appearance has been scheduled for August 9.

Police said this is the 15th homicide of 2012.
