Edmonton police said Wednesday that a 34-year-old man had died, days after he was assaulted in mid-April.

Police said the man was assaulted April 15, 2017, police said a machete was used in the attack that took place in an apartment in the area of 173 Street and 69 Avenue.

When police arrived, they found two males, covered in blood, stepping out of the building elevator – the two were taken into custody for questioning, and eventually arrested.

Inside, the man was found injured. Paramedics were called and transported the man to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police said he was taken off of life support Friday, April 21, and he died the following day.

The two suspects are facing a total of 65 charges in connection to this case, including attempted murder and firearms-related charges. Police said Wednesday the Homicide Unit had taken over the investigation and were set to meet with the Crown Prosecutor’s Office in the future to discuss possibly upgrading charges.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the deceased died as a result of sharp and blunt-force injuries.
