Charges have been laid against a B.C. man, after a serious highway collision left one person dead.

RCMP said officers learned about the crash just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

A pickup truck and a motorcycle collided on Highway 16 eastbound, at the junction with Highway 16-A, west of Stony Plain.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on the scene – police said the deceased was a 53-year-old Edmonton man.

Police said later Wednesday that Kevin Andrew Shelley, 20, of Quesnel, B.C., had been charged with impaired driving causing death, and operation of a motor vehicle while over .08 causing death.

Shelley has been released from custody on bail, with a number of conditions such as not operating a motor vehicle, and he’s not allowed to consume alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

The accused will appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court Wednesday, May 7.
