The City of Edmonton is looking for feedback from residents on potential plans to renew areas around City Hall and Churchill Square.

The city is seeking input on three major areas: replacement of tiles around City Hall, raising 102A Avenue, between 99 Street and 100 Street, to connect City Hall and Churchill Square, and renewal of the East Garden Turf, or the area on the east side of Churchill Square.

Officials said the tiles around City Hall have been prone to breaking and coming loose.

It’s hoped construction wouldn’t take place until work on the Valley LRT Line came through.

“We’re looking at coordinating with the Valley Line LRT construction in 2018 so that we would be on site so that we can impact the public and the event groups only once in that period,” Corinne Bishop with the City of Edmonton said.

Starting late Monday afternoon, and continuing into the evening, the City is hosting an open house to gather feedback from Edmontonians on the potential changes, which officials said would improve accessibility and safety, and make the area easier to maintain.

From 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Edmontonians wanting to share their feedback on this are asked to attend the open house in the City Hall Room at City Hall (1 Sir Winston Churchill Square).

City officials said it’s hoped they will have the concept designs for the changes completed in 2016, with construction completed within two years.
