Motorists can expect traffic to be slower around 170 Street and Yellowhead Trail over the coming months, as city crews started work on the bridge over the CN Rail Yard just north of the Yellowhead.

On Monday, crews closed the southbound lanes of the 170 Street bridge, between 129 Avenue and 118 Avenue and construction work is expected to take six months.

“Today we’re starting bridge rehabilitation on the southbound bridge over the CN yards on 170 Street,” Construction project manager Ryan Teplitzky said.

“We do expect some backups in peak periods so give yourself more time if you’re coming to this area.”

The work will include removing the deck and replacing it, as well as some barrier and abutment rehabilitation and minor repairs.

Drivers are advised to take 184 Street or 156 Street instead.
