City of Edmonton crews are already busy dealing with a number of pothole-covered streets, and one roadway has become a particular issue for drivers – the City said they planned to reconstruct it.

So far this year, crews have filled about 120,000, with a priority on high traffic areas.

“Almost one out of every three neighbourhoods require major roadwork,” Pavement Management Engineer Al Cepas said.

A section of Buena Vista Road has become a nightmare for drivers – the roadway leading to the Valley Zoo and Laurier Park is covered with potholes. Some residents told CTV News they’re disappointed it has deteriorated so much.

However, the City said some relief is on the way, as plans are in place to reconstruct Buena Vista road between 142 Street and 132 Street this summer.

“So it will be all brand-new curbs and sidewalks, brand new road, speed tables at crosswalks, so a lot different than it is today,” Cepas said.

Cepas said the road is one of several set to be repaved, others include Wayne Gretzky Drive between 98 Avenue to Capilano Bridge, 142 Street from 118 Avenue to Yellowhead Trail, and 170 Street between 107 Avenue and Yellowhead Trail.
