A man in his 80s is in serious condition in hospital, after he was injured after being hit by a van on Saturday in south east Edmonton.

Police were called to the area of 71 Street and 34 Avenue just before 6:30 p.m., after a van collided with a cyclist.

Emergency crews treated the 82-year-old male cyclist on the scene, and then rushed to hospital.

Currently, the man is in serious, but stable, condition.

The Edmonton Police Service Victim Services Unit was also called to the scene to help the 64-year-old driver of the van, who was reportedly distraught.

The EPS Traffic Section is investigating, charges are pending.
