A Hollywood producer with dozens of films to his name is joining forces with Oilers owner Daryl Katz to create a new production company.

Producer Joel Silver has partnered with Katz to create Silver Pictures Entertainment – a new company to develop, produce, and provide or arrange financing for feature films, television and digital projects: either within the studio system or independent from it.

A press release sent out Monday billed the new company as combining Silver’s nearly four decades of experience producing major motion pictures with Katz’s business insight.

In addition, Silver Pictures Entertainment will continue its partnership with Warner Bros – active projects with the studio include a third installment of Sherlock Holmes and Logan’s Run.

Silver Pictures has a number of films in post-production, including The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.

Joel Silver is the producer behind the Sherlock Holmes movies, The Matrix Trilogy and the Lethal Weapon series.
