A few days after he was suspended by Wildrose Party Leader Brian Jean, officials with the party confirmed the MLA and Finance Critic had been brought back to caucus following a vote.

On Tuesday afternoon, Wildrose Party officials confirmed the party’s caucus had voted to lift Derek Fildebrandt’s suspension, done in response to a comment he posted on social media that was deemed to be unacceptable.

The suspension was lifted Tuesday afternoon, effective immediately.

In a statement, Leader Brian Jean said the MLA had committed to address concerns related to the incident, and said he had accepted their concerns and criteria.

“Derek is an important member of our Wildrose team and we all expect him to have a bright future within our organization,” Jean said, in part, in the statement.

The party said Fidelbrandt had agreed to follow a plan to better handle his social media accounts, which included hiring a social media manager to handle his public online interactions.

Fildebrandt was suspended late Friday, May 27, in an announcement made by Jean, after the MLA replied to a comment on his Facebook page.

The comment in question congratulated Fildebrandt for speaking out against visiting Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, commending the MLA for “telling the truth about Mr. Wynne or whatever the hell she identifies as.”

Fildebrandt responded, saying he was “proud” to have the poster as a constituent.

Later, he insisted he mis-read the original comment, and didn’t mean to attack Wynne’s sexual orientation.
