Police east of Edmonton have identified the human remains found in a burned vehicle in rural Strathcona County Monday.

Strathcona County RCMP said Wednesday that the Medical Examiner in Edmonton had completed an autopsy on the deceased Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Dylan Anthony Cleet, 27, of Fort Saskatchewan. RCMP said Cleet had recently lived in Edmonton.

The Medical Examiner confirmed his death was homicide, but the cause of death is not being released.

The investigation started after police were called to a vehicle fire on Range Road 224 near Township Road 534 at about 4:20 a.m. Monday. Crews put out the fire, and found human remains inside.

Investigators said the burned vehicle was confirmed to be silver 2011 Dodge Journey, with Alberta licence plate BLW 4278.

RCMP said they had learned the deceased had a girlfriend at the time of his death, but she had not been identified – she isn’t a suspect, but it’s believed she could have information that could help in the investigation.

RCMP are asking the woman, or anyone with information that could identify her, to call police.

In addition, investigators are asking anyone with information on the homicide, or anyone who had recent contact or information about Cleet is asked to call RCMP at 780-467-7741 or Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
