Although Edmonton police warned motorists earlier this week that they were cracking down on speeding drivers, officers said two motorcyclists had been caught driving at more than double the speed limit.

Police said two separate incidents were reported Thursday, the first was in the area of 23 Avenue and 38 Street just before 3 p.m.

A motorcyclist was travelling at 156 kilometres an hour, in a 60 kilometre per hour zone - as he was caught travelling more than 50 kilometres an hour over the speed limit; the driver is required to appear in court.

There is also a possibility that driver could face additional charges.

In the second incident, officers on Groat Road at 93 Avenue caught a motorcyclist driving at 122 kilometres an hour in a 60 kilometre per hour zone.

That driver is also required to appear in court.
