Court documents outlining evidence RCMP believe they have against Travis Vader, the man accused of killing Lyle and Marie McCann, a St. Albert couple in July 2010, have been released.
The documents suggest Vader’s fingerprint was found on a beer can that was found in the McCann’s SUV. Notes from Crown Paralegal Stella Aloneissii Hatoum states further details on the potential piece of evidence.
“Compared fingerprint to beer can found in the Tucson to Vader’s right middle finger…finger individuals and verified” by an officer.
The notes also say investigators have Vader’s DNA on a beer can as well.
Earlier, Crown documents released showed Lyle McCann’s hat, with a bullet hole, had been found in the vehicle, along with Marie McCann’s blood.
The notes of an RCMP officer showed Mounties planned to advise witnesses on the day the Crown abruptly stayed proceedings against Vader in March, 2014. The witness at the top of that list was Dave Olson.
CTV News spoke to Olson in 2010 in Peers, Alberta – multiple sources claimed he had seen Vader in a green SUV at about the time the McCanns’ disappeared – although when he spoke to CTV News in 2010 he said “He was in a lot of vehicles at the time.”
The bodies of the McCanns’ have never been found.
Vader was charged with murder in April 2012. The charges were stayed in 2014, a few weeks before the case was set to go before a jury when the Crown said it realized RCMP hadn’t disclosed all of the evidence in the case.
The documents became public Monday, when a judge granted a request from a number of news organizations to lift a publication ban.
The documents have not been presented or proven in court, nor have the allegations been proven in court.
Vader has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
