Days after they walked off the job, and were locked out by their employer, more than one hundred staff at a Red Deer senior’s residence are getting ready to vote on a tentative agreement that could end their strike.
On Friday, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees said the union and the employer, Symphony Senior Living, had reached a tentative agreement early that morning in Calgary.
The AUPE said the 130 staff at Symphony Senior Living Aspen Ridge in Red Deer would vote on the tentative agreement Saturday, and the results of the vote would be released that afternoon.
The facility’s licensed practical nurses, health care aides and other specialized staff walked off the job on Monday – after delaying the strike in a last-ditch effort to make a deal with the employer.
On Jan. 24, staff gave strike notice – to which the Ontario-based employer responded with lockout notice.
Contract talks broke down after both sides failed to come to an agreement over more than one year of negotiation.
