Drivers advised to steer clear of Anthony Henday south, several highways

Edmonton police have advised drivers to stay away from the southwest part of Anthony Henday Drive.

Authorities said they were dealing with numerous collisions caused by treacherous road conditions.

In particular, police have been dealing with a multi-vehicle collision near 111 Street.

Officers have also been investigating several injury-related collisions between 111 Street near the Highway 16 turnoff.

Edmonton police said that between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. they responded to seven hit and run incidences, five injury-related collisions and 37 property damage collisions. 

HIGHWAY WARNINGS

RCMP in Lac La Biche warned drivers of extremely poor conditions on Highway 881 and Highway 663.

However by late Sunday evening they said the highways around the area were in fair winter conditions but some still had sections with black ice and were partially snow covered. 

They reminded motorists to slow down and use caution.
