Warm and mostly cloudy for most of today.
THEN...some rain & freezing rain.

A low pressure system develops in the foothills today & quickly moves NE.
Areas around Edmonton and south & west of the city get a chance of showers this afternoon as surface temperatures will be above zero.
However, areas NE of the Capital Region will get the rain this evening and surface temperatures may be below zero.
So...there's a significant risk of freezing rain in many areas this evening.  THEN...it turns to snow overnight.
No Freezing Rain Warnings have been issued this morning.  But, there IS a Special Weather Statement out:  www.weather.gc.ca/warnings
It is VERY likely that Freezing Rain Warnings will be issued later today.

So, roads in NE Alberta are expected to be icy later tonight & then icy AND snow-covered Friday morning.
Parts of Highway 16 between Vegreville and Lloydminster may also be affected.

Around the Capital Region, wet roads may turn slick overnight with temperatures falling below zero.
However, freezing rain doesn't pose much of a threat to the city.

Temperatures should top out a handful of degrees above zero today & 2 or 3 degrees above zero again Friday.
We're still anticipating a cooldown for the weekend with highs dropping into the 0 to -5 range and a chance of some light snow.
Snowfall amounts (if any) continue to look insignificant (MAYBE 1-3cm).
