Over 100 people turned out to get on board for Edmonton's first LRT Dance Party Saturday night.

"As far as I know this is the only place in Canada that young people can come for a dance party on the LRT system," Coun. Don Iveson told CTV News.

"I think the best part is the reactions we're getting from people as we roll through the stations," he said.

The event was planned by the Edmonton Youth Council with help from the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Transit.

"It's just part of their Transit Ninjas initiative, which is to promote transit to new riders and raise awareness of the importance of transit to building a city that can attract and entertain young people," Coun. Iveson explained.

One of the chairs of the youth council, Keita Hill, said it took about two months to put the party together and it was worth it.

"It's been an absolutely great crowd," he said.

"We had people who are just ready to come out here and have a great time."

There were two train cars with separate disc jockey's to create two unique party atmosphere's, Hill explained.

"The people can kind of switch between and choose the sort of music they want," he said.

Hill said the event had been a lot of fun.

"It's a great promotion for youth council. A great way to show people that taking transit can be fun and sustainable and a great place to meet other people.

Hill said the feedback had been positive and the council was hoping to hold another dance party.

"The turnout tonight is fantastic," Coun. Iveson agreed.

"Hopefully there will be interest to continue to promote transit in innovate ways like this," he added.
