A young Edmonton man has been charged after marijuana was seized from his vehicle during a police traffic stop near Beaumont.

RCMP were conducting a traffic stop when they saw a vehicle driving south on Highway 814, north of Beaumont, just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police saw the vehicle had no day-time running lights and pulled the car over to alert the driver.

Officers changed the focus of their traffic stop after “indications from the driver and from inside the vehicle.”

The two men in the vehicle were arrested and a search led to a seizure of a 241-gram bag of marijuana.

Elton John Francis, 20, of Edmonton, has been charged with possession of over 30 grams of marijuana, as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He will appear in Leduc Provincial Court on January 24.
