Police have charged an Edmonton man after a two vehicle crash southeast of Westlock ended with a man being assaulted with a weapon.

On August 21 around 1 a.m. Westlock RCMP responded to a 911 call near Township Road 594 and Range Road 261.

They found a man with minor injuries near a van on the road and took him to hospital.

At the hospital police were advised there was another man being treated for a serious but non-life threatening injury.

During that investigation police learned that a two vehicle collision occurred earlier between the van and a truck. The lone occupant of the van and the driver of the truck got into a confrontation, which lead to the assault with a weapon.

Three other occupants of the truck were not injured during the incident.

Westlock RCMP have charged a 51-year-old Edmonton man with assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

He was been released on his own recognizance with several conditions.

His first court appearance in Westlock Provincial Court is scheduled for October 26, 2016.
