An Edmonton man has been given two life sentences after pleading guilty to charges in the deaths of two other men.  

Melvin Simon John Mitchell was charged with second degree murder in the death of Jose Rodriguez who was discovered inside his apartment at 83 Street and Jasper Avenue in June, 2013.He was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, robbery and offering an indignity to a body in the case.

Charges of second degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon were also laid on Mitchell in the death of Curtis Dugray. Dugray was found in a park at 99 Avenue and 111 Street in May, 2013.

The judge also gave Mitchell no eligibility for parole for 12-and-a-half years for each death, as well as a lifetime firearm probation.
