Edmonton police issue warning over counterfeit U.S. currency

Edmonton police said area merchants need to be on the lookout for counterfeit U.S. bills circulating through the city.

Reports of the fake $100 bills have been reported to police since October, with more than 120 bills being used at Edmonton-area businesses.

The bills recovered to date include the following serial number sequences with three varying digits:

• IJ11401_ _ _ I
• KD74872_ _ _A
• HB66698_ _ _E
• HJ61755_ _ _A

A male suspect is believed to be tied to distributing the bills to big box stores around Edmonton. The suspect is using the counterfeit bills to purchase electronics and gift cards.
