Edmonton's Chamber of Commerce has officially pulled the plug on the popular Bright Nights Festival at Hawrelak Park.

The chamber says rising costs and the condition of the aging light displays are the main reasons for turning off the lights for good.

"[It's] a very expensive show to set up and tear down and maintain and we felt we had the rates as high as we could. The admission prices, probably a little higher than they should be and we just aren't able to sustain the event anymore," said Martin Salloum, Chamber of Commerce president.

Salloum says it's unclear what will happen to the 900 displays. It's been hinted in the past that some new event could run in conjunction with the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
