Cold temperatures are coming to Edmonton starting Monday after a mild start to this winter.

For the next 10 days, temperatures will range between -15 and -26 degrees with a chance of flurries every day.

This sudden and severe change in weather can be deadly for those without a warm place to stay, or close enough to social services.

But thankfully, there is a mobile shelter in Edmonton that travels to those in need.

“I think when the weather turns really cold, there’s a certain desperation out there,” Stephen Inglis told CTV Edmonton.

Inglis is a Boyle Street Outreach Worker – the non-profit that operates the warming bus which provides food and clothing to Edmonton’s homeless.

“Most folks like the hot soup, so if we see 35 people, it’ll be 35. If we see 90 people, it’ll be 90,” Inglis said.

Despite all the difficulties they face, Inglis said that the homeless community remains strong and close.

“They have a very strong community,” Inglis said. “You know they look out for each other. And I like to think this becomes an extension of that – it becomes a safe place.”
