Mayor Don Iveson hopes that a new website will help people in the city understand what affordable housing is and why it’s needed in Edmonton.

The new campaign is meant to dispel myths surrounding affordable housing, such as whether it impacts property values.

“Property values do not vary over time due to the presence of Affordable Housing developments,” states the campaign’s website.

Affordable housing is defined as rent or payment below average market costs and is meant for families that earn less than the average income.

According to the 2014 homeless count, 2,300 people in Edmonton were without a home.
