In just a few weeks, Edmonton's outdoor parks could soon be smoke free.
A proposed city bylaw going before the Community Standards Committee next week could mean that anyone caught smoking within 30 feet of a playground, outdoor skating rink, or sports field will be fined $250.
If the new bylaw is approved by the committee, it will still have pass by city council before taking effect.
Following that, the city will launch a $75,000 education campaign to help residents get used to the new rule.
