A 25-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly killing a 21-year-old in northwest Edmonton early Friday.
Edmonton police responded to a house in the area of 128 Avenue and 124 Street, and upon arrival, they found a woman in medical distress. The 21-year-old was treated and rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
An autopsy revealed that the woman – identified by friends and family as Sara Crane – died from a stab wound after an altercation with the accused, EPS said.
A longtime friend of Crane told CTV News the accused’s neighbour called police.
“He got woken up by a commotion and went up to go see what was going on and found Sara and he thankfully called for help,” Lizzie King said.
Edmonton police charged Megan Loos with second-degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
King was friends with both Crane and Loos, and said the two were close.
“They were pretty close as far as I knew. I’ve seen them on Facebook like talking all the time,” King said. “I know they’ve hung out in the past and had issues before, but I didn’t think they had that bad of issues … They are very close. They call each other family.”
According to King, the alleged killer is a mother of two, and recently began to turn her life around.
“Just recently she was talking about how proud she was for coming out of the drug life and changing her life for her sons and whatnot, so hearing that this would happen is very shocking and did not expect that from her at all,” King said.
Family and friends are organizing a candlelight vigil to honour Crane.
This is Edmonton’s 11th homicide of 2017.
