A funeral for 14-year-old Emily Joy Stauffer, who was brutally murdered in Edson on Saturday, has brought out most of the small town to give a final farewell.

Emily's parents Terry and Juanita Stauffer delivered an uplifting eulogy to about 800 people.

"I could talk about Emily forever, and I probably will," said Juanita Stauffer.

"Emily loved Jesus, but now her faith has turned to sight, the dream is over, the endless day has begun," said Emily's father Terry Stauffer.

The Satuffers said their family's unwavering faith in God has helped them get through the tragedy.

"When Emily's death was confirmed Saturday night I was shocked and bewildered, all I could pray was 'oh God, help,'" said Terry Stauffer, a pastor at the Edson Baptist Church.

The Stauffers' talked about their family's deep rooted faith and how it's given them comfort, knowing Emily is in a safe place.

"I said to my daughter...last night that this clumsy, self-conscience dad is looking forward to dancing with Emily in heaven as we celebrate God's glory together," said Stauffer.

Residents began arriving at 9 a.m. at the Yellowhead Koinonia Christian School, parking their cars on the field behind the building.

The town of Edson sat quiet for most of the day as several businesses closed for Stauffer's funeral.

The service began at 11 a.m. in the school gymnasium.

The gym only had enough seats for about 700 people, so speakers were placed outside the building to let everyone hear the service.

RCMP have been searching the area in and around Edson since Saturday, but they admit so far there are no new developments or arrests.

On Saturday Emily Stauffer was walking on the town's trail system when she was attacked and killed by a lone man.  The details of the attack are not known, but the Medical Examiner in Edmonton has confirmed that she was murdered.

Four days later, on Tuesday afternoon, a second woman was attacked while on the same trail system in Edson.  The woman was taken to hospital for assessment, but it is not known if she was injured.

Police have not confirmed whether the man involved in the Tuesday attack is the same suspect involved in Stauffer's death.

Police describe the suspect involved in the Tuesday attack as:

  •  A white male
  •  In his mid-twenties
  • Taller than 5'9"
  • Muscular build
  • Dirty hands
  • Black hoodie with white lettering on chest, red lettering on the edge of the hood
  • Black BOCA pants
  • Strong smell of body odor and cologne

Police will compare the details of this incident to any possible links to the Sept. 27 attack.

RCMP appeal to the public not to engage in any form of vigilantism.

Police ask the public to pass along any information about the possible suspect to them immediately.
