Edmonton police said Thursday that officers were investigating the September death of a infant, a few weeks after his first birthday – a death investigators are calling a homicide.

Police said a call came in to 911 seeking medical help for the child on Thursday, September 25, at a home in the area of 88 Street and 148 Avenue.

The child was pronounced dead on arrival, and the matter was considered a sudden death.

EPS said the Edmonton Medical Examiner contacted the Homicide Section after conducting the autopsy on the child, initiating a suspicious death investigation.

Officials said one-year-old Carter Auger died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

The investigation continues – EPS said this was Edmonton’s 20th homicide of the year.
