Officials confirmed one person had died in a collision Monday morning, and Edmonton police are investigating.

EPS said officers responded to a Curb the Danger call from a driver in the area of 184 Street near Anthony Henday Drive at about 7:50 a.m. Monday.

Police arrived to find a female driver deceased inside a vehicle.

EPS said reports indicated that vehicle was driving north on 184 Street when it rear-ended a van that was stopped at an intersection. The van was pushed into traffic, and hit another van that was turning north onto the street. EPS said neither of those drivers suffered significant injuries in the crash.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit has taken over the investigation – and said early evidence suggests the 31-year-old woman who died at the scene was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Just after 8:30 a.m., police advised the north and southbound lanes of 184 Street had been closed in the area of Anthony Henday Drive due to the collision, the exit ramps from the Henday onto the street had also been closed.

This is Edmonton’s 25th traffic fatality of the year.
