Edmonton police said they’re searching for a stolen vehicle and a suspect believed to have been involved in a hit and run Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Downtown Division officers were called to a reported fraud at a financial institution in the area of 118 Avenue and 79 Street at about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers saw the suspect vehicle backing into a parking spot outside the location, and tried to block the vehicle from leaving the spot with their police cruiser, and an officer stepped out of the cruiser, telling the suspect to step out of the other vehicle.

At this point, police said the suspect accelerated, hitting the front of the cruiser and the leg of the officer.

The suspect fled the scene in the stolen vehicle – described as a 2015 silver or light blue Lexus RX350 SUV with a licence plate CUL418.

The suspect is described as a clean-cut, Caucasian male with blue eyes, likely in his 30s.

The EPS officer was treated for minor injuries at the scene, and police arrested a female suspect at the scene – it’s alleged she tried to cash a fraudulent cheque and charges are pending.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
