A 40-year-old woman is dead after a fatal collision near Sherwood Park early Monday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Baseline Road and Highway 216.

RCMP say the woman had exited from the highway and was in the process of turning onto Baseline Road westbound but she failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer.

Traffic investigators say it appears she had been talking on her cellphone at the time of the collision.

Leslie Wolf, 40, of Devon was pronounced dead on scene. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Baseline Road was closed in both directions for over an hour while RCMP investigated bringing traffic to a stand still during the Monday morning rush.

RCMP continue to investigate but alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision.
