An early morning blaze has destroyed three homes in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Lacombe.

The call came in at about 5:15 a.m., and crews arrived to find a home in Henners Point fully engulfed - the fire spread to two more homes.

Firefighters spent the morning trying to contain the flames from spreading. Neighbouring homes suffered varying degrees of damage from the intense heat and flames.

Fire crews from neighbouring towns of Blackfalds, Clive and Bentley assisted the Lacombe fire department..

The fire was brought under control around 8:00 a.m., with crews remaining on scene to deal with hot-spots.

There are no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is not clear, although it's believed the fire started in the garage of one of the homes.

An early damage estimate has been pegged at $1.8 million.

Lacombe is located approximately 31 kilometers north of Red Deer.
