Police said five people were arrested and are facing hundreds of charges, after more than a dozen firearms were recovered as part of an extensive investigation.

On January 23, members with Red Deer’s Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) seized 16 firearms that are believed to have been stolen from homes in Red Deer and central Alberta.

The seizure came after a search warrant was executed at a downtown Red Deer home located near two schools.

Five people were also arrested, and officers seized more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, 28 grams of methamphetamine and a variety of stolen property.

The five individuals: Joseph Daniel Swain, 30, Joseph Russell Sinclair, 26, Stephanie Dawn Hughes, 31, Angie Faye Deneff, 33, and Amanda Dawn Fox, 31, are facing a total of 230 charges related to drugs and guns.

Police said Swain was arrested as part of a vehicle stop in north Red Deer – investigators found a handgun stashed in the driver’s side door panel, and another between the driver’s seat and the center console, in addition to fifty rounds of ammunition.

Swain had been bound by a 10-year firearms prohibition related to a previous court decision.

ALERT’s investigation continues.
