Northlands announced Monday that this year’s K-Days parade will have an ‘Alberta Strong’ theme, with Wood Buffalo Fire Chief Darby Allen among the parade marshals.

Wood Buffalo Mayor Melissa Blake, Wood Buffalo and City of Edmonton’s Fire Department first responders and Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson will join Allen as parade marshals.

“We believe that this year’s annual K-Days parade will celebrate the strength of our communities like never before,” Northlands President and CEO Tim Reid said.

New food items available on the midway this year will include: mac n’ cheese stuffed burgers, big pickle dogs, teriyaki chicken perogies, Oreo rice, deep fried coffee, Nutella glazed mini donuts and a number of other culinary delights.

As previously announced, Northlands has partnered with Treaty Six First Nations to hold a traditional Pow Wow over the course of the festival. An indigenous princess pageant will also take place at this year’s event.

“We have an outstanding new partnership with Treaty Six and Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation,” Reid said. “It’s a sincere honour and privilege to work with our indigenous partners in this important and meaningful year of reconciliation.”

This year’s K-Days celebration runs from July 22 through the 31 and will begin with the annual breakfast with Premier Rachel Notley on the south grounds of the Alberta Legislature on July 20.
