Up until recently, Dalwinder Singh Dahele or 'Dal' used to sell used cars in Edmonton, but he also had another job, Dal was an officer with the Edmonton Police Service.

Dal's two businesses: Autobahn Automotive Solutions Ltd. and Autobahn Outlet specialized in the sale of high quality used luxury cars at wholesale prices, according to a LinkedIn profile. He's being accused of selling vehicles with existing liens, something strictly forbidden under Alberta's fair trading act.

A local man claims he's one of Dal's victims, saying Dal introduced himself as a police officer while trying to sell him a vehicle.

The Mazda CX-7 SUV he purchased in November 2015 for 11-thousand dollars was repossessed because it had a lien filed on it.

He said the money; the SUV and Dal are all gone. "I don't know, maybe if I wouldn't have the support of my wife, maybe I would have gone bankrupt."

According to Alberta's automotive watchdog, other used car buyers have come forward with similar stories and a current investigation by the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC), means Dal Dahele can't sell vehicles while he's being investigated.

"We did receive several consumer complaints and we immediately started an investigation," said AMVIC executive director John Bachinski. "Based on the investigation, we felt there was a need to act quickly with the directors orders."

CTV news went looking for Dal Dahele at his home in St. Albert. His wife, also named in the AMVIC order, said she didn't know where he was.

We were finally able to locate Dal. He's no longer with the Edmonton Police, he now works as a civilian with the Calgary Police Service.

According to Dal, the lien problems at the heart of the investigation aren't as big as AMVIC makes them out to be.

Dal says problems began with a bounced check from his bank and that a former business partner, someone he calls mike zap, wasn't working hard enough to make the business successful. "Ultimately i would’ve gotten rid of Mike Zap anyway because i didn’t see him for dust," said Dahele.

Mike Zap, likely Mike Zaparyniuk, is also the subject of an AMVIC order to not sell cars in Alberta. Zaparyniuk is a sergeant with the Edmonton police service, and also has a civil suit filed against Dal Dahele claiming he owes him 37-thousand dollars. He also claims in the suit he's out money he put up to start the Autobahn Outlet.

Dahele says he's going to file a counterclaim against Zaparyniuk.

As for the victim who claims he lost 11-thousand dollars, Dahele says he'll sit down with him and work something out.

The investigation by AMVIC is ongoing.
