RCMP south of Edmonton said a collision involving two large trucks left cargo strewn over the highway, and delayed traffic through the area for several hours Thursday.

Police said on Thursday, at about 12:20 p.m., officers were called to a collision on the QEII at Highway 616 where a transport truck stopped on the highway was hit from behind by a heavy machinery transport.

In addition to RCMP, firefighters and paramedics were called – and police said a person had to be dislodged from underneath the cab of the second transport.

That individual suffered no serious injuries. STARS Air Ambulance was called, but officials said it stood down at the scene.

As a result of the crash, police said cargo being transported by the first transport spilled onto the highway, and a heavy piece of machinery from the second vehicle rolled onto the highway – delaying traffic for several hours Thursday.

Late Thursday afternoon, RCMP said the highway had been cleaned up, with debris and vehicles removed.

RCMP are investigating.
