Hours after police began investigating; detectives have deemed the early morning death of a man in his 20s a homicide.

Officers were originally called to the area of 109A Avenue and 98 Street just after midnight Friday.

Police said a man was found suffering from serious injuries – and although paramedics responded, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner performed the autopsy Friday morning, and confirmed the man was murdered.

Police have identified the victim as 25-year-old Catlin Houle.

Investigators said the cause of death will not be released.

As police continue their investigation, detectives were seen combing the area for evidence, and examining, and then towing two vehicles.

This is Edmonton’s 16th homicide of 2012.
