It was a rough start for a number of motorists Monday, as many found a parking ticket on their windshields, issued for not complying with the City’s seasonal parking ban.

The City of Edmonton called a Seasonal Parking Ban starting Sunday morning – which bans parking on seasonal bus routes while crews clear snow from the roadway.

Bob Dunford, the City’s Manager of Roadways, said there didn’t appear to be much cooperation from motorists.

“We would like everyone to comply, I mean, enforcement is our last option,” Dunford said.

Enforcement comes in the form of a $50 parking ticket, and if the vehicle isn’t moved, it could be towed – leaving the vehicle’s owner with another $100 cost.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, the city said 314 tickets had been issued, 19 tows requested, and seven vehicles had been towed.

The City said the parking ban remains in effect, even if snow clearing equipment has passed through, until an official announcement is made.

Officials said the ban is expected to remain in place for at least another day.
