A number of residents of an apartment complex were evacuated Tuesday afternoon, after a fire broke out inside a suite in the highrise building.
Crews were called after 2:15 p.m. to ‘The Albany’ apartments, located on 101 Avenue and 116 Street.
A fire had broken out in a suite on the 8th floor – smoke could be seen pouring from the window and balcony of the apartment.
Any residents who were home at the time of the blaze were evacuated from the apartment.
CTV News has learned the fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes, and was contained to one suite.
“Obviously our number one concern was evacuation of this highrise,” District Chief Jan Van Imschoot said. “There are some people with disabilities [living here].
“[Crews] talked with one gentleman in the lobby who was very thankful of the crews, who did a great job of getting him out of the building.”
No one was hurt, and a cause has not been determined.
The damage estimate has been pegged at $55,000.
