Edmonton police said an investigation was underway, after emergency crews were called to a car in the city’s southeast, and had to rescue a toddler left locked in a vehicle.

Police said officers were called to the area of 53 Street and 17 Avenue at about 3 p.m. Monday after it was reported a 2-year-old boy had been locked in a vehicle.

Edmonton Fire Rescue was also called in, and firefighters had to break a window to rescue the child.

Firefighters measured the temperature inside the vehicle when the child was rescued, and found it was 50 degrees Celsius inside. At about 3 p.m. Monday, the temperature in Edmonton was about 24 degrees Celsius.

The child was taken to hospital as a precaution, he wasn’t injured.

Police are investigating, and charges have not yet been laid.
