The widow of an Edmonton Police Service officer who was killed while trying to arrest a suspect says she and her children will temporarily move back to the United Kingdom, to be closer to family.

Claire Woodall sat down with CTV News on Friday, and said she and her two sons will travel to Manchester in 2017.

A year and a half ago, her husband Constable Dan Woodall, was shot and killed while trying to make an arrest on suspicion of hate crimes.

Woodall says the last few months have been difficult, and she’s looking forward to spending some time closer to family in the U.K.

“I’m always recognized, or people feel a bit pressured when they’re around me, or they don’t know whether to come up and say hi,” Woodall said. “It’s very strange and I just need to be normal person Claire, instead of Constable Daniel Woodall’s widow.”

Woodall says the move will not be permanent, and the family plans to come back to Canada. A date for their return has not been set.

Woodall said she plans on becoming a Canadian citizen.
