RCMP are investigating, and major traffic routes in Leduc have been temporarily blocked off after a male pedestrian was struck by a train, and suffered fatal injuries.

Leduc RCMP were called just before 3:30 p.m., on reports that he had been hit by a train east of 50 Street, and north of Rollyview Road in Leduc.

Police said they believe he was walking south along the tracks, wearing headphones, when he was hit by a train heading in the same direction.

RCMP, with the local fire department and Emergency Medical Services arrived a short time later – when it was confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries.

As a result of the incident and the investigation, 50 Avenue and Black Gold Drive at 46 and 47 Street were blocked by the train, and traffic was diverted to Rollyview Road and 65 Avenue.
