Police west of Edmonton said a month-long drug trafficking investigation had wrapped up, resulting in a number of charges being laid against an Edmonton man.

Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP said on August 15, a man was found by police in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Grove Motor Inn – and officers soon noticed a strong odour of marijuana coming from the car. The man inside was arrested.

Police searched the vehicle, and found a variety of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, GHB, marijuana, mushrooms and Viagra, with a total estimated street value of $29,000, in addition to a baton, a large sheathed knife, a restricted handgun with a loaded magazine and $2,250.00 in case.

As a result, Michael Brodt, 29, faces 13 charges including possession of an illegal substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and weapons-related charges.

On Wednesday, RCMP said investigators had determined the firearm found in the search was stolen, so another charge of possession of stolen property was added.

The accused is expected to appear in a Stony Plain courtroom August 20.
